Diecast models cars are becoming slightly less common on the toy store shelves. They’re still around, but sadly, diecast car models are being replaced little by little with plastic toy cars.

It’s really a shame. Diecast models cars are simply superior when it comes to points of craftsmanship and durability. Kids are kids, and sooner or later that plastic car is going to be squashed under a careless foot, chewed on by the dog because it wasn’t properly put away, or smashed a little too hard into another car.

Plastic products are cheaper and easier to mass produce, but really, when it comes to automotives, nothing really beats diecast models cars.

Look at the collector’s market for model cars, you won’t see many plastic pieces outside of model kits. As common as plastic is for toys, you almost never see it in the collector’s market, because collector’s know that diecast lasts longer, looks better and just provides an overall better product when it comes diecast models cars.

What we’re saying here is: If you’re a NASCAR family and your kid has been wanting that diecast Jeff Gordon car for his birthday, do him a favor, treat his toy chest with the same respect you do your display shelf, and get him diecast car models. Plastic simply breaks too easily and becomes more and more brittle over the years. Diecast provides a toy you can pull out of storage twenty years from now and reminisce about living with your parents. Plastic provides a toy you can take out of the toy chest a year from now and wonder why two of the wheels have fallen off and the the hood is cracked.
