Revell Model Cars
Nostalgia For Revell Model Cars
Revell model cars are an interesting company, producing models of any vehicle you could hope to find a model of, and many of them still use glue, for the nostalgic factor. They actually got their start doing model trains in 1943 from their factory in Venice, California, led by Jacque Fresco and Lou Glaser. They eventually branched out into toy model cars, military vehicles, ships, aircraft, you name it.
Revell model cars was eventually bought out by Odyssey Partners of New York, after which they were folded into Monogram Models Company in Morton Grove, Illionois (another company Odyssey had purchased that year).
Revell model cars are known for their attention to detail, but the truth is that, for many of us, the real appeal is in the nostalgia factor. The smell of that acrylic paint, the glue, snapping little pieces of gray plastic together. It was fun, meditative, and we loved it as kids.
If you’re one of those kids who was into model cars, go ahead and look into getting some Revell model cars and “revel” (pardon the pun) in some nostalgia.
Revell cars are still fun to put together, still fun to paint, and still fun to play with. The attention to detail is impressive, they’re well made, durable (as long as you build them correctly!) and make for great centerpieces to put on the coffee table.
If you’re choosing between Revell and some classic Maisto model cars, get both! Both companies are still around in some form or other, and still producing some top of the line, high quality model cars.
